Last summer, House of the Dragon, set in the Game of Thrones universe, managed to turn social media upside down. One of the reasons it became such a hot topic was the leak of the season finale on the internet. Authorities investigating this leak arrested an Israeli hacker on charges of attacking HBO’s servers.
Operation against the hacker who stole the House of the Dragon finale from HBO
House of the Dragon, which aired on HBO Max last summer, made headlines when the season finale was leaked online. Researchers, who determined that the person causing the leak was near Tel Aviv, initiated a thorough investigation including file codes.
For those who don’t know, the season finale leak occurred two days before the planned broadcast date. HBO confirmed that the leaked episode was shared on torrent sites. Starting the investigation by stating that these shares were distributed from Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
As a result of a comprehensive report, it was determined that the person who leaked it was in Israel. Detectives from the Israel Police Region Cyber Unit conducted investigations through social media. They managed to decipher the hacker’s identity by examining the leaked file.
HBO, including the final season of Game of Thrones, the seventh season, had previously experienced leaks in their popular projects. Even though the finale of House of the Dragon fell to torrent, it broke records by being watched by 9.3 million people on HBO Max.
On the other hand, let’s note that the Game of Thrones universe will expand. According to the announcement made in April, filming has begun for Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. However, it is not known when the series will be released.
